Keeping Cool

23 07 2008

Everyone warned us how hot living in the deserts of New Mexico would be. In the flat, dry desert areas, that may be the case, but here in the forest we’ve had very few hot days since we came. Lately, clouds roll in about midday that may bring rain or may not, but either way, they temper the heat of the direct sunlight and keep it nice out.

Meanwhile, everyone to whom I’ve spoken back in Colorado says that it’s been hot, hot, hot there. I remember last summer in a house with no air conditioning that got hot in a hurry. We had to run the fans and swamp cooler constantly in addition to going through a routine of opening and closing windows and doors at appropriate times of the day to keep the heat out. Here, we don’t really have to worry about it. It’s just a nice, moderate temperature most of the time.

We’re planning to leave Saturday for a weeklong trip back to Denver. Maybe I’ll get to experience some authentic summertime heat after all.

Thank God my parents have a swamp cooler! I’ll probably be living right in front of it the WHOLE time 🙂 Every time I talk to someone about how hot CO is, I just laugh because so many people told us we would be hot here. Don’t they know I have the weather connections????

Yeah AC here makes all the difference. If you have AC, it’s not that bad. Of course it just seems like everything is working for New Mexico and not much for Colorado…. 😦 Sad face. Let us know when you come out, though. We may not actually end up having the money to visit you guys in August, which makes me really sad. But it would be better if we could see you at some point while you’re out here.
